Two bedrooms, two bathrooms and beds for six, five to ten minutes' walk from Cleveland Clinic's main campus in Fairfax, Cleveland. This is the apartment for a family taking turns at the hospital, where somebody is always leaving and somebody is always coming back to sleep.

The space
Two queen bedrooms with closets and blackout roller blinds let one person sleep through the middle of the day while the rest of the household is awake. The sofa in the living room opens into a queen bed, which takes the count to six without anyone drawing the short straw on an air mattress. Two full bathrooms is the detail families notice by day three, because mornings stop being a negotiation. The kitchen has quartz counters, a full range of pans and dishes, a dishwasher and bar stools at the counter, so meals happen in shifts without much ceremony. Hardwood and an open plan keep the living and dining space usable when four adults are in it at once. A hair dryer and a steamer are in the bathrooms, for the day someone has to look presentable at a consult.

The neighborhood
Fairfax sits right beside the main campus, so the person on hospital duty walks over in five to ten minutes and the rest stay put. A Cleveland Clinic shuttle stop is five minutes away on foot. Meijer Fairfax Market, the same five minute walk, covers a real grocery run rather than a gas station shelf, and has a coffee shop and a gift shop attached. When the day allows an hour off, Little Italy is six minutes by car.
