Cleveland Clinic main campus: what to know before you arrive
A practical guide to parking, building letters, the shuttle and everything else Cleveland Clinic does not put in one place. Written for people arriving from out of town, and checked against Cleveland Clinic's own published sources.

Cleveland Clinic's main campus is at 9500 Euclid Avenue, several miles east of downtown Cleveland. It covers 170 acres and roughly 59 buildings, each identified by a letter. The main entrance is the Miller Family Pavilion, the J Building. Parking is free for the first hour and capped at $12 a day.
Three things almost everyone gets wrong on a first visit
- Main campus is not downtown. Downtown Cleveland is a separate part of the city. Booking a hotel there means a commute every morning.
- University Hospitals is a different hospital on the same street. Cleveland Clinic is at 9500 Euclid Avenue. University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center is at 11100 Euclid Avenue. They are competing health systems, and a satnav will take you to the wrong one. If your appointment is there, we keep a separate guide to housing near University Hospitals.
- Your appointment letter names an institute. The signs name a letter. Nothing connects the two for you. The table below does.

Cleveland Clinic main campus buildings: which one is your appointment in?
This is the question that causes the most trouble on a first visit, and Cleveland Clinic does not answer it in a way you can use.
Every major building on main campus has a letter. That is what appears on the signs, on the garage instructions, and on your appointment desk code. But the letter almost never appears on the institute page you were sent to. The Taussig Cancer Center page publishes no street address at all, so the only address on it is the site-wide footer for 9500 Euclid Avenue. Taussig is at 10201 Carnegie.
Cleveland Clinic's map explains the system in one sentence and then stops:
Each major building at Cleveland Clinic is designated with a letter and a corresponding color.
That is the entire published explanation. The letters exist as labels drawn onto the campus map artwork, so they cannot be read by a screen reader, do not survive a black-and-white printout, and are hard to use on a phone in a parking garage. The old interactive campus map is offline.

The desk code trick
Your desk code starts with your building letter. If your paperwork says report to Desk G-31, you are going to the G Building. Desk Q2 is the Glickman Tower. Desk J1-9 is the Miller Family Pavilion.
Cleveland Clinic does not publish this rule anywhere. We worked it out by cross-referencing five of their pages, and it held every time. Treat it as a strong hint rather than a guarantee, and confirm at the information desk if the letter is all you have.
If your appointment is for surgery, you go in through J regardless
Cleveland Clinic's surgery guide says it three separate times, and it holds even when your check-in desk is in a different building:
If you are told by your surgery scheduler to arrive at J1-9 (Surgical Center), you may arrive through the Miller Family Pavilion entrance (J building). You will then proceed to the J1-9 desk for check in.
The Miller Family Pavilion is the main entrance to main campus. No Cleveland Clinic page states that in a sentence, but J is the only valet stand open 24 hours a day, and it is where visitor photo passes are issued.
The buildings this table does not cover
Several institutes have no published building assignment. Digestive Disease, Orthopaedic and Rheumatologic, Dermatology and Plastic Surgery, Head and Neck, Respiratory, Endocrinology, and the Transplant Center are spread across buildings without a single address on their own pages.
The Neurological Institute is a special case. It is currently distributed across several buildings, and a consolidated Neurological Institute Building is due to open in early 2027 with a skybridge to the main hospital. If your appointment is neurological, the building on your letter this year may not be the building next year.
Directions to Cleveland Clinic: check the address before you set off
Cleveland Clinic's own website lists more than one address for several main campus buildings, and one of those addresses points at a street that is currently closed. You do not need the whole story. You need three checks, the night before.

Search the building, not the hospital
Type the building name from the table above into your maps app, not Cleveland Clinic. Main campus covers 170 acres, and the entrance you want may be a ten minute walk from the one your satnav picks.
Check two
Confirm you are going to main campus
Cleveland Clinic has hospitals in Avon, Mayfield Heights and across Northeast Ohio. Every one of those pages shows 9500 Euclid Avenue in the footer, so the address at the bottom of the page is not proof of anything. Check the address in the body of your appointment letter.
Check three
Going to Children's Outpatient? Use 8950 Euclid Avenue
A second Cleveland Clinic page gives this building's address as 2010 East 90th Street. East 90th Street is closed. Follow that address and you drive into a road closure with a child in the car.
If you want the detail: Cleveland Clinic publishes two different addresses for the J Building, three for the P1 garage, and both 44195 and 44106 as the ZIP for main campus. The ZIP is not a reliable way to tell buildings apart. Everything above is from Cleveland Clinic's own pages, checked August 24, 2026.

Rates below are from Cleveland Clinic's parking page, checked August 24, 2026. Cleveland Clinic does not publish an effective date on that page, so confirm at the gate if a few months have passed since this review date.

The number most guides get wrong
Several hotel websites near campus still list the daily maximum as $10 and the four-hour rate as $8. Both are out of date. The current daily rate is $12, and the figure that matters most to a family staying a week, the $60 five-day cap, appears on almost none of them.
Budget $12 a day, and $60 if you are here five days or longer.
Multi-visit passes
If you are coming back repeatedly for treatment cycles, infusion or rehab, buy the passes:
- 7 visits for $36 — about $5.14 a visit
- 35 visits for $120 — about $3.43 a visit
One visit means one entry plus one exit. You can use more than one in a day, and the days do not have to be consecutive.
Where to buy them: any valet cashier desk (J1, A1, CA1, i1, R1), or the P1 garage office at JJ North Building room JJNB-230, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Valet
- $14 a day, with a $70 maximum for stays of five days or more
- Credit card preferred
- Main entrance, J Building: 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
- A, CA, i and R Buildings: Monday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. only
One inconsistency worth knowing: Cleveland Clinic's accessibility page describes valet as costing the same price as self-parking, while the parking page lists valet at $14 and self-parking at $12. Ask at the stand rather than assuming.
There is no parking validation
We looked for one specifically, across the parking page, the accessibility page, the visitor information pages, the campus map and Cleveland Clinic's financial assistance documents. Cleveland Clinic publishes no parking validation program, and no parking hardship or discount scheme beyond the multi-visit passes above. Those passes are a prepaid volume discount, not validation.
If someone tells you your department can validate, take it. It may exist as an unpublished local practice. Do not plan around it.
Accessible parking
- A surface lot at E. 100th Street and Carnegie Avenue has 27 spaces reserved for accessible parking only
- P1 has accessible spaces on every floor and an accessible bathroom on the third floor
- P2 has accessible spaces on every floor and no bathroom, plus a golf-cart shuttle to three of the busiest buildings
- Wheelchairs are free at every Cleveland Clinic campus
Two things about the garages
P2 is a longer walk than you expect. Cleveland Clinic's own warning is that using P2 will require you to walk four street blocks. Its third floor connects to an accessible skyway. P1 connects to the hospital by a tunnel at Level B.
Garage opening hours are not published anywhere
If you have a pre-dawn surgery check-in, this is the one thing worth a phone call before the day itself. Cleveland Clinic's 24-hour parking line is 216.444.2255. Ask which garage is open at your arrival time and which entrance to use.
Electric vehicles: charging is available at P1. Cost and connector types are not published.
Orange buildings are served by P1, sage buildings by P2. Grey buildings use surface lots.
Getting around Cleveland Clinic: shuttle, RTA and the airport
The Cleveland Clinic shuttle
Free, wheelchair accessible, on demand, and open to more people than most visitors realise. Cleveland Clinic's wording:
to help patients and visitors travel conveniently and comfortably between locations across Main Campus and to various off-campus sites.
Hours:
- Monday to Friday: 4:45 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Weekends and holidays: 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Runs 365 days a year
How to get one: call 216.444.8484 and choose option 1, ask a Redcoat or a hotel employee to call, or flag down a stopped shuttle at the curb.
The shuttle stops twice a day and nobody mentions it
Cleveland Clinic publishes two daily service gaps for driver meal breaks:
- No shuttle service, 10:20 a.m. to 11:35 a.m.
- No shuttle service, 5:50 p.m. to 7:05 p.m.
That is roughly 75 minutes, twice a day, on a service advertised as running every day of the year. If your appointment ends at 10:30 a.m. or 6 p.m., plan for it.
Where it goes: between main campus patient buildings and the three on-campus hotels, the InterContinental Hotel, InterContinental Suites and Holiday Inn, plus Ronald McDonald House and the United Cerebral Palsy facilities.
Hope Lodge and Transplant House are served by a separate, weekday-only schedule. On request between 6:50 a.m. and 4 p.m., then at 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 p.m. No service on weekends or holidays. Reservations are asked for at least 15 minutes ahead.
The shuttle does not go to the airport. Cleveland Hopkins does not appear on any Cleveland Clinic shuttle page.
One conflict to be aware of: Cleveland Clinic publishes a 10 p.m. weekday end time. Two nearby hotels advertise the same shuttle running until after midnight, and they contradict each other on the exact time. If you need a late pickup, call 216.444.8484 rather than relying on either figure.
Public transit
The RTA HealthLine runs along Euclid Avenue and stops at Euclid Avenue at Clinic Drive. There is also a stop at Carnegie Avenue at East 100th. It runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at roughly 10-minute frequency during peak hours.
Fares:
- Single ride: $2.50
- All-day pass: $5.00, valid until 3 a.m. the following day
- Seniors, riders with disabilities and children: $1.25 single, $2.50 all day, with valid photo ID — an RTA Senior ID, a state ID, or a Medicare card with a photo
Before you plan on the HealthLine after surgery
Between Public Square and East 105th Street, HealthLine stations sit on median platforms in the middle of Euclid Avenue. Every station is ADA accessible with level boarding from the vehicle, and there are tactile pavers and countdown crossing signals.
But RTA's own instruction is to stay in the designated crosswalk to reach the centre median. There is no bridge or tunnel. You get to the platform by crossing a live traffic lane at street level. For an ambulatory traveller that is fine. For someone recently discharged, pushing a wheelchair, or moving slowly, it is worth knowing before you commit to it.
On the 2026 service cuts: RTA reduced service in August 2026 and has proposed a further reduction. The HealthLine and the Red Line are not on the list of affected routes in either round. The routes RTA named are the #1, #15, #41-41F, #50 and #77 for frequency reductions, the #35 discontinued, and weekend reductions on the #25, #28-28A and #83. Check RTA's alerts page before you rely on a specific departure, because the posted HealthLine timetable is dated March 2024.
Getting in from the airport
Cleveland Clinic's own guidance: Cleveland Hopkins International Airport is approximately 30 minutes from main campus. Akron-Canton is about an hour away and has no rail connection.
Cleveland Clinic's published airport advice is taxis and car services, with a help line at 216.445.3114 and Patient Support Services at J1.
The option Cleveland Clinic never mentions
Cleveland Hopkins has an RTA Red Line station on the lower level of the main terminal. The Red Line runs seven days a week from approximately 4 a.m. to approximately 12:30 a.m., with trains roughly every 15 minutes for most of the day, and reaches Tower City downtown in under 30 minutes.
From Tower City you transfer to an eastbound HealthLine and stay on Euclid Avenue to the Clinic Drive stop. One transfer, $2.50, or $5 for a pass good all day.
We could not find this route mentioned on any Cleveland Clinic patient page. It works well if you are travelling light and moving comfortably. It is not the right choice with heavy luggage, a wheelchair, or a patient who has just flown in for surgery.
Red Line track work has been frequent through 2026. Check RTA's service alerts the morning you travel.
Cleveland Clinic visiting hours and staying overnight with a patient
This section is for the person who is not the patient, and it is the part of a hospital stay that is documented worst.
Visiting hours and staying overnight are two different things
Cleveland Clinic says both of the following. They appear on the same page, two questions apart.

Elsewhere Cleveland Clinic describes 24/7 visiting hours so you can have round-the-clock support from loved ones if needed.
Read carefully, because every qualifier in the second quote is doing work:
- Special circumstances — staying overnight is not a general right
- One visitor — one person, not the family
- Some of our patient rooms — it depends on the room
- The patient's admitting physician — not the nurse, not the unit
- Prior to hospitalization — before admission, which for an emergency admission has already passed
The single most useful thing on this page
If you want someone to be able to sleep in the room, ask the admitting physician before admission. Not on the day. Not at the nurses' station. Before.
Open visiting hours means your family can come and go at any hour. It does not mean they can stay the night. Those are separate permissions, and only one of them is automatic.
Children's is different, and better. Cleveland Clinic Children's states that overnight accommodations are available for one parent or guardian to stay with each child. Note the inversion: pediatrics is stricter on visiting hours, asking visitors to come between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m., and more generous on staying overnight.
Quiet hours on inpatient units run from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.
What is actually available to a companion on campus
- The surgical waiting lounge has televisions, magazines and free lockers. One or two family members may stay with the patient until surgery begins. Tell the reception desk if you leave the lounge at any point during the day.
- Family View lets you follow the patient's surgical progress on a screen. You get a personal code from the J1-9 receptionist when you check in. Patient Service Liaisons are at 216.444.5767, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Spiritual care is available 24 hours a day, free, regardless of faith, at 216.444.2518. The Family Chapel is on the first floor of the Glickman Tower, the Jewish Chapel is on the first floor of the H Building behind Starbucks, and a Muslim Prayer Room is on the first floor of Glickman across from the chapel. These are the only quiet spaces on campus documented as open around the clock.
- Interpreters are free, available 24/7 at every location, and explicitly extended to companions. Cleveland Clinic's wording is that they can provide interpreters at no cost to you and your companions. ASL interpreters are provided at no charge, on site for scheduled appointments, with video remote interpreting at all hospitals. Request through 216.445.7044; phone interpretation is 216.445.8900.
Cleveland Clinic publishes no showers, sleep rooms or respite rooms for companions of adult patients. If you are staying overnight with someone, plan for that outside the hospital. Our patient and family housing page covers what a caregiver actually needs over a long stay.
Safety, answered practically
Cleveland Clinic Police is a sworn agency. Its officers are commissioned through the State of Ohio and have full policing authority, including issuing citations and making arrests.

Free escorts, 24/7, and visitors qualify
Cleveland Clinic Police provide walking or vehicle escorts as a complimentary service for all patients, visitors and caregivers, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. A spouse walking back to a garage at 2 a.m. is covered. Call 216.444.2250.
The limit to know: escorts are not provided to locations off Cleveland Clinic property. An escort will walk you to your car. It will not walk you to your hotel.
Blue and yellow emergency intercoms are placed on sidewalks and in parking areas across campus. Calls from them are treated as 911 emergencies.
One distinction that trips people up: University Circle Police is a separate agency with a separate jurisdiction. Cleveland Clinic main campus is Cleveland Clinic Police territory, so call 216.444.2250. University Circle Police, at 216.791.2444, covers the University Circle neighbourhood north and east of campus. Calling the wrong one costs time.
The free University Circle CircleLink shuttle does not serve Cleveland Clinic. Its GreenLink route serves University Hospitals and Case Western Reserve, weekday peak hours only, and BlueLink stops running around 6 p.m.
Food, pharmacies and groceries near Cleveland Clinic
What is open at 3 a.m.
Five places on main campus are open 24 hours, and all of them are open to visitors:
- The Marketplace, J Building
- Panera, J Building
- Starbucks, H Building
- Lerner Grab-n-Go, NB Building
- Bikur Cholim kosher room, M Building, Room M1-006, across from the elevators, with recliners, microwaves, refrigerators and prayer items. Hotline 216.320.1771.
Where to get medicine in the middle of the night
The Marketplace in the J Building is open 24 hours and stocks over-the-counter medicine alongside ready-to-eat meals, drinks and convenience items.
Since there is no 24-hour pharmacy near main campus, this is the closest place to buy paracetamol, antacid or a thermometer at 3 a.m. without leaving the hospital. Worth knowing before you need it.
Outside those five, campus dining is weekday-oriented and mostly closes by mid-afternoon. Do not count on finding a hot meal on campus late on a Saturday.
Groceries
Meijer Fairfax Market, 2190 E. 105th Street, is the closest full grocery store to main campus at roughly seven tenths of a mile. Open daily 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Phone (216) 628-7301. It opened in January 2024, occupies 40,000 square feet, and has a covered customer parking garage.
Beyond it, the nearest options need a car:
- Dave's Market, Midtown, 1929 East 61st Street — daily 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Dave's Market, Cleveland Heights, 1940 Lee Road — 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., the latest-closing of the group
- Dave's Market, Shaker Square, 13130 Shaker Square — daily 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
If a delivery service matters to you, check coverage against the address you will actually be staying at before you arrive. And if you want groceries delivered to a hospital room, that is a question for the nursing unit rather than the delivery service. If you are cooking for yourself over several weeks, a furnished apartment with a full kitchen changes the maths on all of this.

Pharmacies
Cleveland Clinic runs its own outpatient pharmacies on main campus:

You can call ahead or walk in with a prescription from a Cleveland Clinic doctor. The general line is 216.445.6337. Hours vary by location and are not published in a form we could verify, so call the one you need.
Three pharmacy facts that will save you a trip
- There is no 24-hour pharmacy near main campus. The nearest 24-hour Walgreens pharmacy counter is roughly ten miles west on Lorain Avenue. That is a highway drive, not a walk.
- Every Rite Aid in Ohio has closed. The company confirmed the closures in October 2025, and the Ohio Board of Pharmacy confirmed Rite Aid holds no active licenses in the state. If your prescription history was at Rite Aid, your file has been transferred somewhere. Confirm where before you arrive.
- The Walgreens at 10001 Chester Avenue is a specialty pharmacy, not a retail one. It is the closest Walgreens to campus on a map and it will not fill a walk-in prescription.
Money, mail and Wi-Fi
ATMs on campus, all available 24 hours: J Building first floor near the skyway elevators, the corridor between the M and H Buildings, the Crile Building lobby, the skyway between Crile and the main hospital, the Walker Center lobby, the Emergency Building lobby, the InterContinental Hotel lobby and the InterContinental Suites lobby.
KeyBank branch, J Building — Monday to Thursday 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., closed weekends.
Post office — first floor of the T Building, near the Euclid Avenue entrance. Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sells stamps and envelopes and has a scale.
Concierge Desk — 216.636.1288, weekdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
House phones: the beige phones around campus reach any Cleveland Clinic number. Dial the last five digits.
Wi-Fi is free across most of main campus. Cleveland Clinic's own caveat is worth passing on: some areas get better reception than others.
Cleveland in winter
Cleveland Clinic publishes no standing severe-weather policy for appointments. What their announcements have shown in practice, most recently in January 2026, is that selected Express Care and Urgent Care locations close during severe weather while all emergency departments stay open. Announcements go out through the Cleveland Clinic newsroom.
If you are arriving between November and March, build in extra time, and check the newsroom or call 216.444.2200 on a bad weather morning rather than assuming your appointment is cancelled.
Cleveland Clinic main campus: questions people ask before they arrive
Is Cleveland Clinic in downtown Cleveland?
No. Main campus is at 9500 Euclid Avenue, several miles east of downtown Cleveland. The RTA HealthLine connects the two along Euclid Avenue. Booking a hotel downtown means commuting to your appointments.
Which building is my Cleveland Clinic appointment in?
Your appointment letter usually names an institute, while campus signs use letters. As a shortcut, your desk code normally begins with your building letter: Desk G-31 is the G Building, Desk Q2 is the Glickman Tower, and Desk J1-9 is the Miller Family Pavilion.
How much does parking cost at Cleveland Clinic?
The first hour is free. It is $5 for one to two hours, $7 for two to three, $10 for three to four, and $12 for a full day. Stays of five days or more are capped at $60. Valet is $14 a day with a $70 cap.
Are the Cleveland Clinic parking garages open 24 hours?
Cleveland Clinic does not publish garage opening hours. If you have an early morning surgery check-in, call the 24-hour parking line at 216.444.2255 beforehand and ask which garage is open at your arrival time.
Does the Cleveland Clinic shuttle go to the airport?
No. The shuttle serves main campus buildings, the three on-campus hotels, Ronald McDonald House and United Cerebral Palsy. Cleveland Hopkins is not on any published shuttle route.
Can a family member stay overnight in a Cleveland Clinic patient room?
Not automatically. Cleveland Clinic offers open visiting hours, but overnight stays are described as available in special circumstances for one visitor in some patient rooms, arranged with the admitting physician before admission. Cleveland Clinic Children's does offer overnight accommodation for one parent or guardian per child.
Is there a 24-hour pharmacy near Cleveland Clinic?
No. The nearest 24-hour pharmacy counter is a Walgreens roughly ten miles west on Lorain Avenue. For overnight over-the-counter medicine, The Marketplace in the J Building is open 24 hours and stocks it.
Is University Hospitals the same as Cleveland Clinic?
No. They are separate, competing health systems. Cleveland Clinic main campus is at 9500 Euclid Avenue and University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center is at 11100 Euclid Avenue, about a mile further east on the same street. Does Cleveland Clinic validate parking?
We could find no published parking validation program. The only published discount is the multi-visit pass, seven visits for $36 or 35 for $120, sold at valet cashier desks and the P1 garage office.

- Eleven apartments sit in a single building on the campus perimeter, with a Cleveland Clinic shuttle stop directly in front of it. The same building has Meijer Fairfax Market on the ground floor, a free space in the residential garage with each apartment, staffed security seven days a week including overnight, and a rooftop courtyard.
- Sixteen more are in newer Fairfax buildings roughly a five to ten minute walk from campus, with a private fitness centre, a courtyard and free parking.
- Sizes run from studios to four-bedroom apartments for families staying together.
