Nobody plans the food part. You plan the flights, the appointment, the person who will drive. Then it is day four, the fridge is empty, someone needs a prescription filled, and you are staring at a map full of pins with no idea which ones are real.
This is the part of a long stay that nobody briefs you on, so here it is.
One full grocery store is within walking distance of Cleveland Clinic main campus: Meijer Fairfax Market, at 2190 E. 105th Street, open daily 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. For prescriptions, Cleveland Clinic runs four outpatient pharmacies on campus. There is no 24-hour pharmacy nearby, and the Walgreens that looks closest on a map will not fill a walk-in prescription.

The one grocery store you can walk to
Meijer Fairfax Market sits roughly seven tenths of a mile from main campus, which makes it the only full grocery store you can reach on foot. It opened in January 2024, runs to 40,000 square feet, and has a covered customer parking garage.
That opening date matters more than it sounds. Before Meijer arrived, this neighborhood had gone decades without a full-service grocery. If you are reading advice written before 2024, or a forum thread from a few years back, that is why it tells you there is nowhere to shop.
Two places that have closed
Both still turn up in older guides and in map results, which is how people end up outside a locked door.
- Constantino's in University Circle has closed. Constantino's own homepage still lists the University Circle location, which is a large part of why the confusion persists. Their remaining store is in the Warehouse District, about four miles away.
- Plum Market Kitchen, which took over that space at 11473 Euclid Avenue, has an unclear status. We could not confirm whether it is trading. Call before you go.
Filling a prescription on campus
If the prescription came from a Cleveland Clinic doctor, the simplest answer is usually the one inside the hospital. Cleveland Clinic runs four outpatient pharmacies on main campus.

You can call ahead or walk in with a prescription from a Cleveland Clinic doctor. The general line is 216.445.6337.
One honest caveat: Cleveland Clinic does not publish opening hours for these pharmacies in any form we could verify. We tried. Call the one you need rather than walking over and hoping.
For a stay measured in weeks, these are usually the right choice anyway. They are on campus, they already have the prescribing doctor in the system, and you are walking there instead of driving.
Three things that waste a trip
Each of these has sent someone across Cleveland for nothing.
There is no 24-hour pharmacy near main campus
The nearest 24-hour Walgreens pharmacy counter is roughly ten miles west, on Lorain Avenue. That is a highway drive, not a walk, and its pharmacy counter closes between about 1:30 and 2 a.m. for a meal break.
For anything you can buy without a prescription, The Marketplace in the J Building is open 24 hours and stocks over-the-counter medicine alongside food and drinks. Acetaminophen, antacid, a thermometer at three in the morning, without leaving the hospital. It is the single most useful thing on this page. The closest Walgreens will turn you away
The Walgreens at 10001 Chester Avenue is about half a mile from campus and is the first result most people find. It is a specialty pharmacy. It does not serve retail walk-ins and it will not fill your prescription.
Every Rite Aid in Ohio has closed
Rite Aid confirmed the closure of all its stores in October 2025, and the Ohio Board of Pharmacy confirmed the company holds no active licenses in the state. There is no Rite Aid operating anywhere in the Cleveland area.
If your prescription history was at a Rite Aid, your file has been transferred to another chain. Find out which one before you travel, not while you are standing at a counter in a strange city.
What we could not verify
We are listing these plainly, because a confident guess here costs someone a wasted afternoon.
- Opening hours for any Cleveland Clinic pharmacy. Not published in any form we could confirm.
- Hours for the CVS at 8000 Euclid Avenue, the nearest CVS to campus.
- Hours for the Walgreens on Mayfield Road in Cleveland Heights. Two Walgreens pages gave two different closing times for the same store on the same day.
- Aldi's hours at 7500 Euclid Avenue.
- Whether Meijer Fairfax Market still caps free garage parking at 90 minutes. Two sources say it does; Meijer's current page mentions free covered parking with no limit.
- Grocery delivery coverage. Check your actual address before you rely on it. And delivery to a hospital room is a question for the nursing unit, not the delivery company.
If you are cooking for weeks, not days
A hotel kettle and a mini fridge work for a weekend. They do not work for a month, and they do not work at all if someone is managing a diet after surgery.
