If you are here for a week or more, this is the part of the stay nobody briefs you on. Here is what is actually open, and the three traps that waste an afternoon.
Meijer Fairfax Market, 2190 E. 105th Street. Open daily 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Phone (216) 628-7301.
It is roughly seven tenths of a mile from main campus, which makes it the only full grocery store you can reach on foot. It opened in January 2024, runs to 40,000 square feet, and has a covered customer parking garage.
Before Meijer opened, this neighbourhood had gone decades without a full-service grocery. If you are following advice written before 2024, or a forum thread from a few years back, that is why it says there is nowhere to shop.
Everything else needs one.
There is an Aldi at 7500 Euclid Avenue, roughly a mile and a half out. We could not verify its current hours from a source we trust, so call before you drive.
Both still turn up in older guides and in map results.
Cleveland Clinic runs four outpatient pharmacies on main campus.
You can call ahead or walk in with a prescription from a Cleveland Clinic doctor. The general line is 216.445.6337.
One honest caveat: Cleveland Clinic does not publish opening hours for these pharmacies in a form we could verify. We tried. Call the one you need rather than walking over and hoping.
For a stay measured in weeks, these are usually the right choice anyway. They are on campus, they already have the prescribing doctor in the system, and you are walking there rather than driving.
The nearest 24-hour Walgreens pharmacy counter is roughly ten miles west, on Lorain Avenue. That is a highway drive, not a walk, and its pharmacy counter closes between about 1:30 and 2 a.m. for a meal break.
For anything you can buy without a prescription, The Marketplace in the J Building is open 24 hours and stocks over-the-counter medicine alongside food and drinks. Paracetamol, antacid, a thermometer at 3 a.m. without leaving the hospital. It is the single most useful thing on this page.
The Walgreens at 10001 Chester Avenue is about half a mile from campus and is the first result most people find. It is a specialty pharmacy. It does not serve retail walk-ins and it will not fill your prescription.
Rite Aid confirmed the closure of all its stores in October 2025, and the Ohio Board of Pharmacy confirmed the company holds no active licenses in the state. There is no Rite Aid operating anywhere in the Cleveland area.
If your prescription history was at a Rite Aid, your file has been transferred to another chain. Find out which one before you travel, not when you are standing at a counter in a strange city.
Told plainly, because guessing here costs someone a wasted trip.
A hotel kettle and a mini fridge work for a weekend. They do not work for a month, and they do not work at all if someone is managing a diet after surgery.
That is the point where a full kitchen stops being a comfort and starts being the thing that makes the stay possible. Our extended stay apartments near Cleveland Clinic all have one, along with in-unit laundry.
