MetroHealth's main campus is a straight drive west across the river from this two bedroom apartment in downtown Cleveland, which sleeps six. When a family is taking turns at a hospital, two bathrooms and three beds matter more than square footage does.

The space
Two queen bedrooms, each with its own TV, and a living room sofa that opens into a queen bed. Two full bathrooms, so the person leaving for a six o'clock visit does not wake the one who sat there all night. Hardwood runs through the open living and dining area, with carpet in the bedrooms and tile in the kitchen and bathrooms. The kitchen is set up for real cooking, with a stove, oven, dishwasher, toaster and full cookware, which is calmer and cheaper than another week of cafeteria food. The dining table seats four and the counter seats four more, so everyone can eat together on the evenings the whole family is back at once. Nobody else comes through: the apartment is yours for the length of the stay.

The neighborhood
MetroHealth's main campus is west of downtown, out past Ohio City, which is six minutes across the river. Cleveland Clinic's main campus is ten minutes in the other direction and University Hospitals thirteen. Downtown gives the family somewhere to go once the day is over: a restaurant on the ground floor of the building, East 4th Street and Playhouse Square three minutes out, Progressive Field a minute away. Cleveland Hopkins International Airport is twelve minutes, which helps when relatives arrive on different days. Parking on the premises means the car is ready for the early drive over and waiting when you get back.
